  1. Call to order:  Nathan Heitz at 7 pm.   Prayer by Father
  2. Ron Reusche is welcomed as a new member, replacing Leo Beschorner.
  3. Mindy Hart was present to look for our input regarding Parish life. She shared with us the Mission, Events they host and that the meet the 2nd Monday every month except July.   Parish council members responded that the Parish Life events are vital for an active parish and important for community involvement of all ages.   Also, parishioners can interact in various ways and these are critical for building our community.   Mindy was asking for ideas to support Parish Life and how to recruit volunteers.      She will email these questions to the Parish council to think about over the next month and we will have follow up at our next meeting.
  4. Officers elected include:
Nathan will continue to chair (and has been since 2021)
Vice will be LuAnn Scallon
Secretary – Mary Jo Stromberg
Was also noted that we do have an opening for another member.
  1.  We reviewed and approved as written the Pastoral Council minutes from 5/20/25.   We also reviewed for discussion the Finance Council minutes (need to add a zero to the budget “$509, 00”.   Reviewed Peace and Justice June 16 and Aug 11 2025,  Parish Life minutes from 5/12/25, and Faith Formation Aug 5, 2025.
  2. Becky reported on the latest finance council meeting.   – no major expenses currently,    Parking lot payments are coming, which are separate from the building project and covered under operating expenses.    They decided to take a loan for $75,000 with 2% interest to cover bills as they come in.   noted that there is not a penalty for early payoff. And pledges are still coming in.
  3. Building update-   “basically done” just a few things to check off over the next week.   Huff construction has been very good to work with to help defray some costs that architects planned.
  4. Journey in Fath Regional Meetings will be taking place in the next month.   Fr encouraged us to attend.   On Sept 2nd there will be more information available online.   There will be follow up meetings at St Mary in late Sept/Oct.
Faith Formation news – Natalie Goetz has resigned and will be needing a new Faith Formation coordinator and 1-2 interim assistants.   This will be a paid position.   A degree for the interim is not necessary.    The curriculum is established and this person will mostly be guiding the catechists.

Parish Life – Follow Up to Presentation at Aug Pastoral Council Meeting:
Thank you for your time and thoughtful engagement at your recent meeting. Your input and feedback are deeply appreciated.
As promised, I am sharing the questions I posed for your continued reflection. Please feel free to reach out with any additional thoughts or ideas that come to mind. Our goal is to continue offering activities and events that truly build and strengthen our parish community.
Value of the Ministry
  • From your perspective as parish leaders, how important is the Parish Life Committee to the mission of our parish?
  • Do you see the ministry of Parish Life as essential to fostering a welcoming, Christ-centered parish community?
Events and Activities
  • Of the activities and events we currently sponsor (BINGO, Trivia Night, Parish Picnic, Easter Egg Hunt, etc.), which do you feel are most impactful for building community and living out our mission?
Are there events or efforts we should consider scaling back, discontinuing, or reimagining?
  • Are there new activities or outreach efforts you believe we should explore?
Sustainability and Growth
  • Our committee is small but dedicated. What ideas do you have for growing membership and increasing volunteer support?
  • Should we consider recruiting a broader pool of volunteers across parish ministries, or adjusting staff job descriptions to include volunteer coordination?
  • If volunteers cannot be secured, what guidance do you have on whether certain activities or events should be discontinued?
Future Vision
  • What would a vibrant and sustainable Parish Life ministry look like five years from now?
  • How can this committee best serve the wider mission of our parish moving forward?
Your insights will be invaluable as we work together to ensure a vibrant and sustainable Parish Life ministry. Thank you for the leadership and care you bring to our parish.
Blessings, Mindy Hart

  1.  Journey in Faith
  • There won’t be a lot of changes until @ 2027. There won’t be a set program for every parish.
  • We have one of the larger parishes based on our Faith Formation numbers. One plan has us with St. Pat’s, St. Stephens, and Reinbeck.  Nothing is set yet.
  • It’s a pastoral planning process and there will be grouping of parishes in a cluster.
  • There would be 1 pastor and 2 assistant pastors that would live together and rotate where they would have mass.
  •  Our parish could go to 2 masses per weekend. This could start @ July 2026.
  • We have 66 parishes and there aren’t enough priests to cover them. The plan is to not close any church, but there may not be a mass at some. It would be up to each parish if they remained open or closed if they don’t have a mass.
  • Upcoming meetings will be at St. Stephen, St. Ed, Blessed Sacrament, and St. John in Independence. These will be informational meetings in September. You do need to register if you want to attend. The website will offer a place for feedback.
  • October 5th and November 2nd at 11 AM (after 10 AM mass) we will have a meeting for discussion, opinions and feedback. We will have an egg bake brunch. We also have a committee for this.
