Hello St. Mary’s……
For the past two years my wife, Lisa, Daniel Feldhake and Tom Singewald have shared in a journey with 11 amazing young adults preparing for Confirmation. In today’s first reading, we hear a story about how Paul and Barnabas go to Antioch in Pisidia and try to share the word of God and eternal life. Unfortunately, some of them were filled with jealousy and contradicted what they were trying to say, but there were others who were thrilled with the word of the Lord. They were delighted and came to believe while spreading the word of the Lord. Even as Paul and Barnabas were persecuted and expelled from the city, they were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.
Lisa, Daniel, Tom and I have helped focus these young adults so they are prepared for the word of the Lord and eternal life when they confirm their faith in just a few short weeks. At this time, these young adults will build on what was begun in Baptism, and what was nourished in the Holy Eucharist. Confirmation means accepting responsibility for your faith and destiny. To me this is exactly what the Jews and Gentiles did when Paul and Barnabas preached to them.
Father Dave is required by Canon Law to ensure that these young adults are prepared for Confirmation. He should know and understand they have a desire for and knowledge of this sacrament. To help him in this process the candidates must answer these two questions:
What does the sacrament of Confirmation mean to you?
Why do you feel you are ready to celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation?
As these young adults are in the process of answering these questions, it is a great time for us as a parish to reflect on our Confirmation. What does the sacrament of Confirmation mean to you? Have you grown in your spiritual life since you have been confirmed? What can you do to continually prepare yourself, just like Paul and Barnabas, to hear the word of the Lord and be filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.
Please join Lisa, Daniel, Tom and myself in praying for this confirmation class as they finish their journey in the sacrament of Confirmation. Below are the name of this year’s candidates:
Ian Schaufenbuel Alexis Velky
Mason Spree Alexandra Bechtel
Logan Danner Makayla Biddle
Kyle Gilbert Colton Miller
Austin Phyfe Alexandra Kasemeier
