St. Mary Church

Our parish moved to our new parish home at 2700 Horton Rd. in Nov 2008 from our old church building in SE Waverly. Our dedication Mass was Nov 29, 2009. It was a great celebration with over 600 in attendance.

Our parish continues to ministry not only to our parish community, but also to the community at large with several outreach programs. We invite everyone to join us for Mass or any of our special events. You are also welcome!

Outreach

In March & November, volunteers from our parish meet on Thursdays at 9am to assemble backpacks of food. The packs are then delivered to area elementary schools in Waverly-Shell Rock for children in need to be provided with nutritious food for the weekend. All welcome to join us in the parish hall on these mornings.

In May of each year, we provide wheelchair helpers to the local Bartels care center. We take residents to/from their Sunday services in the Bartels' chapel. Contact the parish office to get involved.

The first weekend of each month, we take a collection of non-parishable food items, toiletries, cleaning & paper products for the local Food Bank. We also accept monetary donations to assist the Food Bank with parishable supplies. We typically raise over $1,000 in items & monetary donations each month due to the great support of our parishioners.

During Lent, our parish sponsors a charitable foundation raising thousands of dollars each year for organizations such as Doctors without Borders, Children of the Dump in Nicaragua, etc.

We continue to tithe 7% of our parish offertory to charitable organizations & local persons in need. This is divided into thirds for National, International & local needs.

Parish Life

We have many social & outreach opportunities sponsored by our Parish Life Committee.

Trivia Night for fun competition to guess a variety of questions on science, television, current events... And we have prizes!

Fall Dinner held annually in Oct. We serve over 800 persons a delicious turkey meal with all the fixings.

Summer Fest was held for the 1st time in 2009. We had games for all ages, good food & fun galore!
